• The sharpening mechanisms are designed to remove a minimum amount of steel while still increasing the sharpness dramatically.
  - The first slot is for straight knives, indicated by the straight walls around the sharpening mechanism. 
  - The second slot is designed to sharpen the special serrations of the U-Series serrated knives, indicated by the serration design on one wall around the sharpening mechanism.
